Wine Wick

The dynamic object from Life Cycle Design.

Original Concept

Here's the original concept of the wine wick. this design solved the problem, but was far from the ideal aesthetic. none the less, the design sketch gave us valuable insights on the delicate tolerances involved with various wine bottles.

For the final, we carried over the conical shape and intuitive wicking system.

Modular Connections

The Process

Sketch and 3D Design

As with most ideas, the Wine Wick started with hand and clay sketches.

FDM Modeling

Realizing that clay could never be perfectly crafted, the design was modeled in Rhino 3D and printed in peach PLA.

Silicone Mold Casting

A silicon mold was poured around the 3D print to create a flexible mold from which many modules could be made.

Cement Pouring

The final result of the Wine Wick was poured from cement, the fine particles of the mix were perfect for picking up the sharp lines of the mold.

Add Ons

Two add ons allow you to customize the wine wick into either a planter or sculptural lighting piece. The Plant Pack includes Grow media, plant food, coco pith, a net pot and wick. The Base Light includes a steady base and led rod.
